Great Northern Wars update

For the past two weeks i've been working away on the first two parts of a Russian and Swedish army for the great Northern Wars So here is a few pictures of my progress

 First up is 84 infantry that now that i'm looking at the pictures i've decided I need to paint the buckles on the shoes so they arn't as finished as i thought.

I decided to do an extra layer of darker green as a base

 Then there is the Swedish these are my favorites the colours look so much nicer in person 

 I still have a lot of work to do on these guys but should be completed by next weekend. I have to do all the detailing on the mitres yet as  well

WIP SYW British & GNW Russians

 Well i'm back again and of course the paint brush never seems to stop these are 24 British SYW  all that's left to do is to finish the drum and the basing. hopefully they will be off before the end of the week.

  i started last week Great Northern wars. first up 84 Russian they are at about mid stage still a highlight to go on the green and red and other detail work yet

 Below i've undercoated the Russian cav and artillery, I've had to order more paint and brushes which i need before i start these guys

 And these are the first of the Swedish army there are still more infantry and 24 cav to undercoat yet

I had to drill out a broken rifle barrel and pin it today there's another one to do yet.

 This past weekend i took part in what would have to be the best run most fun biggest wargames event that i have ever seen what a great bunch of guys enjoying thousands of amazing figures as we refought the Battle of Borodino, Many thanks to all those who help organise this great event but a special thanks to John hutton for the huge effort that made all this possible. there were about 4300 infantry over 1000 cav and 160 guns all 28mm what an amazing site.

above is my first of two failed frontal attacks and i was to lose the first unit of the day to a huge cheer from the Russian side. In the end i had to shot with cannon and three battalions of infantry to break these guys

 The battle Rages on the right but so much is happening on the Left where i am they could have been a world away

 Craig is kept busy in the centre  for most of the 14 hours of game time and the Greta redoubt changes hands 8 times  

 I commanded Eugene's command which had draw against it an entire cavalry corps including guard cav it wasn't to long before Russian cav and infantry were swarming all over us which is what we had been order buy our beloved emperor to do, his words were attract as much of those Russians over here and tie them up so we did, at the cost of far to many French lives as it became a meat grinder of a grave yard.

 But as you can see from the above and below shots the meat grinder was hard at work in the centre as Nic and Noel pushed forward to their objectives

 Back on the left flank the thin blue line is really becoming far to thin we've held them for about 10 hours maybe 11 but within two turns my entire Corps of 7 divisions or what was left of them were broken, the only thing left to stop the Russians was reserve cav, 

 Looks impressive but two -three turns and the heavy cav were destroyed

 Just before my command broke i through a last ditch effort to break a few Russian Battalions but it just wasn't to be

 The Russian centre broke the french right were surging forward and the day had been won a teriffic weekend and a great time all round thanks guys.

WIP SYW British

Yes it's back to the SYW armies that i'm doing for commission I've been working for nearly two years now on these armies Austrians done Hanoverian done and this is the second unit of the British. After spending quite a few weeks on my French for Borodino and a week off painting it's back to work. They have now three layers of the red and green and faces started the white but still at least two- three nights of work to go, before i start the next one

 Next weekend i'm off to Christchurch to refight the battle of Borodino with about 25 other guys should make for a long weekend full of fun. I finished the last of my cav on Saturday morning so we are all ready to go

 I think i'm done for now as far as my own Naps army, who knows whats next maybe back to my Carthaginians
