28mm WarLord Games Imperial Japanese test( how to paint)

I bought a 1000 pt war lord games Japanese army a few weeks ago and am now wondering how to paint them, there are plenty of pictures but not a lot of tips on how to paint especially when you use a layering of colours like i do, so yesterday i sat down in my lunch time and did a test figure to see if i could work out my colours. On the figure below i have the uniform with the more yellow look and the cap with my test on a more green

If you like the figure here's how i painted him. If people want i can do a stage by stage picture by picture how to paint. let me know if that is something you guys would like.

so what i came up with for the yellow look is as follows

1. base coat :mix yellow green with German camo brown about 65% to 25% to give a darkish green with a hit of brown to it

2 1st highlight Japanese uniform 

3 second highlight: Mix a small amount of sky grey into Japanese uniform

4 third highlight and yes this is the layer that makes it pop (look so much better)  Mix a small amount of white with Japanese uniform .( use sparingly don't paint to much with it.

Cap:

yellow green

middlestone 

middlestone mix small amount of sky grey

brown 

bestial brown (old paint cant buy anymore)

flat earth 

devlan mud wash (hard to come by) 

Shirt is stone grey then i mixed a small amount of white into it for secont layer.

( I will have to see if this works alright on a whole shirt or not.)

flesh: i just used  shadow flesh 343 then first highlight base carne 341 second highlight flat flesh 70955

where i want a 5 oclock shadow it didnt use the last highlight on this area and then used sky grey watered almost down to nothing use very little on the bush you can go over it as many times until you have the colour you want

IN the photo below you can see how i have done the face a bit better, i should have done the chin as well maybe on the next figure

 today i thought maybe i better do a little bit of work so put third layer on the British troops I have 20 of these figures on the go and about 30 to start.

French troops roll call for the Big Leipzig battle in October

 In total In the battle for Leipzig there will be 356 infantry units, 115 cavalry units, and 91 artillery batteries for the battle. That is 8544 infantry miniatures, 1380 cavalry miniatures and around 200 gun models.other than a few cav regiments and one infantry that has just been based what you see is my contribution to the battle

 i have two guns still unpainted and not all these are actually needed

i'm really happy with the guard artillery even if im unable to get any nice pictures at the moment

 Hi everyone well this week i havent had a lot of painting time but did manage to knock out 16 front rank Carabiner light infantry hopefully i will be able to get a fine day to get  some nice pictures once based

Below i have 4 guard foot artillery 2 guard horse artillery and two line artillery only two guns left to paint and the artillery is complete it will give me around 24 artillery pieces for the French
I've started the next project Chassuer cav which i need to have completed in three weeks actually my whole army need to be ready to travel up the Christchurch before they head on up the Wellington for the big game.
My contribution is 7 reg old guard 5 middle guard 3chassuer cav 12 line regiments empress dragons heavy guard cav and a heap of artillery i dont think the lancers are needed now. oh well fun to paint maybe ill sell them, i will be parting with some of my French if any of you are interested over the weekend.

Front Rank Polish Lancers Finished, Middle Guard & Line inf based

I've really enjoyed painting these 24 Lancers, i was viewing Hussar Bobs blog and saw one he had done

so nice couldn't help myself so 12 days later they are complete

I've also based the two regiments of middle guard and one of line but i hadn't taken any pictures so here they are hope you like

Below are a few shots of 24 polish lancers that i started last Tuesday they are starting to look the part now, the horses need a final highlight and the are quite a few small details yet to do but i hope to have them finished and based early next week so that i can start the old guard artillery(6 guns) and polish infantry( 3-4 Regiments, i also have some light French cav that i have started that need doing.

when the cav is finished ill try and get some better shots.

 I also need to do one more regiment of middle guard to finish giving me four regiments in total the acw were a few last miniute bits that i needed for our big game a couple of weeks back

28mm front rank French wip

 Well here we are again with a few figures that i started last week they arnt quite finished in these pictures but last night i finished  them plus added an extra figure for the line regiment, i still have a few bags of line infantry to go before i start the polish but I'm getting there.

I painted these guys for a big game later in the year up in Wellington.

 

28mm Numidian foot

Hi Guys long time since my last post sorry about that here we have some more of My Carthaginian  army Numidian infantry and a few rebased Celts which were painted 4 years ago really interesting to see how my painting style has changed in four years

 I have tried changing the way i paint skin lately still not quite how i want it but im getting there on theses guys i added a wash to finish but next time might add another two layers of paint after the wash for dpeth and brightness
