My son has asked me to teach him how to paint. His name is Justin and he's 13 I think he found it quite hard but enjoyed himself, i think he did quite well for his first figure plenty of room for improvement but a good start. He asked me to place it on my blog and see what you guys though so here's a pic for you
This looks quite well, specially for a 13 year old who painted his first mini. I have seen worse examples.
ReplyDeleteOf-course it needs improvement but he has many years ahead to improve himself. And with a painter as you as his teacher i know things can only get better.
Tell him not to give up. He made a good start.
Justin,
ReplyDeleteI think it is brilliant! Hopefully, you will keep up your interest with the hobby. I managed to get my son to paint some napoleonic figures (he is 11 now). It's always great for a dad to have a common interest with his son.

thanks heaps it was hard work and dad said he will put it in with his figures when he's finished
ReplyDeleteBetter than my first minis at 25 years old!
ReplyDeleteThe big improvement is learning to ground your hands together to eliminate most of the shaking and give your hands a reference point.
I started the hobby when I was 13 and I would have been happy with that figure.
ReplyDeleteAs long as your happy and enjoy gaming thats all that counts.
Well Done. I'd be proud to have that figure in my army.
ReplyDeletewell I think he did quite well for a beginner and only being 13. As you chaps would say, good on ya mate!
ReplyDeleteCheers...
I've taught dozens of kids to paint in the school gaming club that I run. Most of my students are 13-15 years old. You can tell your son that he has painted a very nice figure, whether its his first or hundredth.
ReplyDeletejustin: Thanks scott that was one tough hour and a half i think it looks cool your comment just makes me want to do more!!!!!
ReplyDeleteVery impressive work - that figure would look great on any tabletop. If your son is starting out this well, I would expect by his 10th figure he'll be grabbing commissions from you!
ReplyDeleteWell Done!

Quick get him in harness. I can see it now Galpy and Son ...purveyors of finely painted armies ;-)
